Voices from the Workshop,
Told by Our Artisans
For more than 60 years, it is the judgment and experience of each individual artisan that has supported the manufacturing floor at Obitsu Plastic Manufacturing. The more difficult the request, the harder we think, giving shape to the intent behind our clients' words. Responding to changes in temperature and humidity, proposing materials with the installation environment in mind, taking on shapes other companies have turned down: this accumulation of effort, hard to convey in numbers, supports Obitsu Quality. Here are voices from the workshop, in our staff's own words.
Why Clients Want to Make Their Soft Vinyl Products at Obitsu
Matsui, Senior Managing Director
Many toys today are produced in China, but Obitsu Plastic Manufacturing has taken on even the difficult projects that neither overseas manufacturers nor our domestic peers can handle. When making soft vinyl, the first step is to create a prototype, and it is hard on the sculptor if corrections are needed after the prototype is finished. That is why, before the prototype is completed, we think about where to divide it so that the result comes closer to the client's ideal, and offer advice based on more than 60 years of coloring and molding experience. In the past, once a mold was ready, I would first mold it myself on the factory floor, study how to release it without air bubbles, and then teach the staff. Today, every member of our staff has mastered that technique. Some shapes are physically impossible to make, but we work with the determination to keep the shape our clients want as unchanged as possible, and to find a way to make it somehow, even when other companies have turned it down. I believe that is why clients choose us. That quality and sense of security lead to trust in "Made in Japan" manufacturing, and today we receive repeat orders from Hong Kong, China, Thailand, France, and the United States. Upon delivery, we are often told, "As expected of Obitsu."
